Introduction to Distributed Power & Renewable Energy

New - Last Updated: July 14, 2004

Global Internet & Communication Technology (ICT) Is Enabled By RE and Distributed Power Generation

With constant communication available, many benefits are laid out for the region's population. These are detailed in the United Nations Development Programme's Internet and Communication Technology study - Digital Opportunity Initiative. Of note are the capabilities offered to developing country populations by ICT listed in the UNDP study under ICT - Making the Case.

In some circles, the Fuel Cell technology and Hydrogen based economy will start an energy revolution. This revolution will make energy available to everyone, not just the wealthiest nations, and would be the first democratic energy regime in history. This typifies the impact of Disruptive Technology in the Energy market.

Distributed Power Generation - Providing Benefits to Power Consumers

3nW Corporation is interested in Distributed Power Generation because Distributed Power is inherently a disruptive technology.

Disruptive Technology is beneficial to the consumer who benefits from lower costs and higher profits. It is typically not favored by the previous monopoly, in this case, electric utility companies and/or foreign providers of energy resources such as oil.

With some notable exceptions, the electric power industry historically has been composed primarily of investor-owned utilities. These utilities have been predominantly vertically integrated monopolies (combining electricity generation, transmission, and distribution), whose prices have been regulated by State and Federal government agencies.

Renewable Energy - Benefits for the United States

3nW Corporation is also dedicated to the long term goal of assisting to remove the dependency on foreign-purchased oil that may finance global terrorism.

Distributed power further enhances the energy self-reliance of the United States. The United States has only about 5% of the world's population, but is responsible for about one quarter of the total global primary energy demand.  Net oil imports accounted for 55 percent of total U.S. oil demand in 2001, up from 37 percent in 1980 and 42 percent in 1990. That trend is expected to continue.

Renewable Energy - Global Benefits for Developing Countries

3nW Corporation further intends for this section of our site to close the loop between our focus on Bleeding Edge Technology and the United Nation's Digital Opportunity Initiative.

Logically, for any Internet & Communications Technology (ICT) development program to proceed un an undeveloped country there must be technology. This technology will not be adopted without power to run the technology.

Global Village Concept - By bringing communication and knowledge to the lowest level possible, all people will have more knowledge to base decisions on, establishing a greater level of trade, understanding, and interpersonal relations. Maybe it will even lower terrorism against the US.

How Will This Occur? - Low-cost mobile devices which can communicate with server-based knowledge base information sources will benefit the entire range of humanity, and are becoming more and more efficient, with longer ranges, and with lower pricing.
