Basic Ambushing 101

Ambush Planning

For notes on how to move and support other elements, see Element Support and Element Movement for more details. These are important tactics to master, so you will not be ambushed, or can quickly manuver defensively after suffering an ambush.

Sneak Tactic

This ambush wiped out over half the enemy's entire force within a single ten second move.

Orange lines are Terrain Fire meant to Breach walls. Purple lines are direct fire by Grenadiers and Suppressive Fire set by other units. Yellow lines are Opportunity Fire. Notice that all units, including Medics, are used for full effect.

Notice that there are three distinct Fire Team Elements all working together. The only way out of this would be for the enemy to recognize the ambush and retreat.

Breaching was done by Commanders, Sniper, and Grenadiers. Other units provided Suppressive Fire, and set up Grazing Fire. Some Grenades were aimed short enough to harm friendly units to prevent enemy charges.

Rookie Move Warning - Don't set yourself up for an ambush...

1) Here's a perfect column of troops to ambush - 13 points in total. The enemy's main problem is that only a single troop (Commander in this case) can bring firepower to bear down the hallway. Nicely bunched together... Take a look at this sequence and you will see what two grenades will do...

2) The Ambush Assault Fire Team is in position, ready for the Grenade caused Breach. The enemy force is not under direct observation yet, but will be when the first grenade detonates...

Note the inbound grenade. The enemy had fired off a single grenade, and by the time it exploded, the Grenadier at the bottom of the screen had safely moved to cover.

3) The ambush goes as planned. The breach is caused by the first grenade, and the second one is inbound. The Grenadier is safely behind cover, so the single exploding grenade is a non-factor.

To the side of this column is a Fire Team consisting of a Medic, Grunt, and Commander who were able to do enough damage  to the survivors for the second grenade to completely wipe out this 13-point column.

... or you will lose the game!

4) This game actually ended on this move. The second grenade annihilated the rest of the troops, totalling some 13 points in a single turn.

All that's left is tagging and bagging them.
