When a Fire Team is splitting up to cover ground quickly, remember to keep the individual units mobile and quickly supportable. Split up jobs such as Support, Scouting, Security, and Assault so that each Fire Team member has an assigned role during the move.
It's one thing to designate a group of units into a Fire Team, but you have to remember to keep thinking in terms of objectives. Failing to plan ahead means surprises, and surprises kill people. Remember to never venture into an area without keeping your Assault element safe with Security (watching your flanks) and Support (being able to quickly direct additional firepower), or you will quickly lose.
To prevent ambush, this Assault Element Fire Team has split up into a Security Element consisting of one Grunt, a Support Element of another Grunt, and an Assault Element of the Commander and remaining Grunt. The Orders are split also - fixed commands for the Security Element and the Commander, with the Support Grunt and the Commander's escorting Grunt fixed to Halt and Attack when enemies are confronted.
The Threat Axis is to the lower left, and the upper left is supported by Mutual Element Support. If the Support Element (leftmost Grunt) runs into trouble, the Assault Element isn't harmed and can return fire. The Security Element (last and rightmost Grunt) is the most exposed, but sometimes you have to weigh risk, and a single Grunt is usually an affordable loss.

The Elements of the Fire Team move to sweep the open areas.

Near the end of the ten second turn, the Element encounters Enemy forces consisting of two Snipers and a Medic, seen at the lower left of the screen. The Elements of the Fire Team are in position, and are able to project firepower and positioning toward the enemy, who has only a single area of fire available. See Encountering Enemy Resistance for the continuation of this encounter.
