While cover may be necessary for assault, mobility is the key to winning the game. Moving support units like medics in through an ever-changing battlefield is done best with stronger units escorting them when available.
Crossing Open Terrain / Protecting Valuable UnitsIn this example, an enemy is in the lower right corner, just out of reach and sight of a supporting Grunt on the opposite wall. Threat axis is down and to the left. Supporting units are behind this element, and are covering the right side. Enemy acquires target, first seen along threat axis set by opposing player. Commander sees enemy, and starts to acquire it.

In this instance, the Medics are moving into cover, and the Commander has taken a shot. Medics continue to move across open field. The enemy Grunt, with less accuracy at longer range has now missed its first shot, and will miss again while aiming at the Medics in motion. Shooting with a single soldier across a distance at a moving target is a low-percentage kill attempt, and should not be tried unless concentrated fire is used.

Grunt is nearly dead from Commander's more accurate and more damaging return fire and the opposing player has to decided to either withdraw, or continue firing. Next planned move for lead Medic is to immediately move into cover in order to break any enemy sight pictures and then to Draw Enemy Fire for a planned assault and room clearing operation by an Assault Element.
